If you would rather read a text version of the information in the video, you can read the following:

Time – We are asking all therapist volunteers to plan on being at the event and set up ready to go no later than 8:30a.m. (a small group of us arrives around 7:30a.m. to get our area set up), and staying until around 12:30p.m. You may want to give yourself 10-20 minutes to get to our area once you arrive at Red Rocks.  I would like to have everyone in our area at 8:50 a.m. for a group picture. The firefighters have the venue reserved until 1:00pm, and it would be great to be able to support any firefighter who may still be in need of a post event sports massage through to the end.

Commute & Parking – We are encouraged to carpool, to help accommodate closer parking. To unload and load your tables, it is recommended you go to the Upper North Lot, and/or let any parking attendant know you need to drop off equipment and they should help guide you. As with most things, the earlier arrival time gets the closer spots.

Uniform – The event shirt included with your registration will be used as a uniform top. This creates a united presence, and helps identify all of us as “Hands On Heroes.” Please wear professional looking bottoms (pants, capris, modest shorts) – no blue jean looking bottoms. Therapists will need to wear supportive shoes, as we’ll be working on a cement surface.  Nametags will be provided. Please present yourself as professionals.

Therapist Care – Please practice therapist self-care by bringing water and snacks to keep yourself hydrated and energized. You may even want to bring a jacket or sweater just in case the temps are cool. And sunblock in case it’s sunny hot. Each year has been different for us, we’ve been caught in the wind, the rain, the sun, and cooler weather. Be prepared for anything.

Personal Advertising – We want this to be a supportive situation for everyone involved. If you would like to promote yourself as a therapist, please bring business cards. It is probably a given, but please know that tips should NOT be solicited. If people would like to donate, they can do so at the sign in table. All donations for this event, go directly towards funding this event.

Linens & Therapist Supplies – We will provide sheets. Alsco has donated sheets for this event each year, and will be doing so again this year. If you would like to bring sheets to use as a protective bottom sheet, or in any other capacity, we ask that they are solid in color. You are encouraged to use the sheets provided. If you would like to bring some solid color towels to use for you or your clients, you are welcome to do so. It is also recommended to bring a bungee to quickly secure the sheets. You are welcome to bring bolsters. Typically face rests are not used due to positioning and space. Also, lotions are typically not used with post event massage techniques. Please be proactive in preparing your technique/skills.

Volunteer Check-In – We will have a check-in table set up where you can sign in, and pick up your shirt and nametag. You will then be directed to the spot to set up your table.

Therapist Breaks – We will have a Therapist Coordinator helping to ensure all therapists get a short break, while keeping the flow of the event moving.  If you need a break please let the coordinator know so he/she can be sure to send a therapist over to work your table while you are away. And please take the breaks as individuals, as needed, not as a group. If you are of age, we are ok with you having adult beverages, while ON break, we ask our volunteers not to bring alcoholic beverages in to the massage area.

Firefighter Agenda (FYI) – According to the stair climb website, packet pick up starts at 0800. The pre-climb ceremony begins at 0846. The climb begins at 0902 following a moment of silence and a performance of “Amazing Grace.” Most climbers will be done by 1100. However, we have seen clients ready for massage as early as 0920. If you would like to show up early, it would be a great experience for you to watch the climb. This event will be a little different from most sporting events, in the fact that we will be able to witness the athletes in action prior to their post event sports massage. And that this event is in honor of such a tragic and epic time in our country’s history.
